• Basic cardiac life support and trauma care
• Dress and bandage wounds
• Minimize discomfort while moving patient to and from the ambulance
Paramedics are said to be the eyes, ears and hands of the emergency room physician. They differ from Emergency Medical Technicians in the fact that paramedics have received additional advanced training to perform more difficult pre-hospital medical procedures. Paramedic job functions include:
• Administering medications
• Advanced cardiac life support
• Basic trauma life support
• Chest decompression
• Cricothyrotomy
• Pediatric life support
• Tracheal intubation
• Venous cannulation (IVs)
